Online slot games are enjoyed by people of all ages, backgrounds, genders and locations, but there are trends towards people of particular walks of life. One of those is age, as there is a clear tendency for players of some age groups to access an unlimited amount of slot games online and play than those of other age groups.
In the United Kingdom alone, this particular tendency is quite clear indeed, so we will focus on this country for the statistics used in this article, and check out how those stats have changed throughout time.
There could be a few reasons for these changes, but it is impossible to say once and for all why people of some are groups tend to prefer online slot games than others. It’s worth having a look into why this could be the case though, so stick with us.
The Share of People who Take Part in Online Gambling in the UK
Through the years of 2016 and 2020, the age groups that prefer online gambling have changed a little bit, although there is still an overlying trend as to what the most popular age group actually is. Let’s break it down a bit to understand.
The following information is from a survey by an analytics site Statista. They carried out annual surveys between the years of 2016 and 2020 to find out the proportion of people of each age group who gambled online at least one time per month.
Their findings were that for the most part, the age group that gambled online the most were 35-44 year olds. Interestingly, this was not the case in the year of 2018, as 25-34 year olds took over here for some reason.
Generally, the age groups to gamble online the least were those between 16 and 24 and those over 64 years old.
Why do People of These Ages Prefer Online Gambling to Other Age Groups
While it’s difficult to pin down a single reason as to why 35-44 year olds love gambling so much, there could be one or two things that cause it based on our estimations.
Generally, we think that it could be a cultural thing. 35-44 year olds would have been at the prime age to become susceptible to online gambling when it became popular for the first time in the 1990s and early 2000s, and this would have been before the government released a bunch of information on the perils of gambling.
That being said, online gambling has hit its peak level of popularity in 2020, where once again, 35-44 year olds took the biscuit.
How Could These Trends Develop in the Future?
Based on the trends, we would imagine that 35-44 year olds will continue to be the most popular age group for gambling until at least 2024 when they begin to move into the 45-54 year old age group. But, it’s anyone’s guess at the end of the day!
